Tony Plana was born Jose Antonio Plana on April 10, 1952, in Havana, Cuba. His family fled from Cuba to Miami in 1960, and later settled in Culver City, California. The actor married Ada Maris in 1988, and the couple have two children. Plana began his acting career on the stage, and despite success with TV series and films, he continued to stay active in theater communities in both New York and Los Angeles. TV series that Plana appeared in include Hill Street Blues, Star-Trek: Deep Space Nine, Resurrection Boulevard and Desperate Housewives. Films that Plana appeared in include An Officer and a Gentleman, Three Amigos, Goal!, and Lone Star. Plana is best known for his role as Ignacio Suarez on the hit TV show Ugly Betty. For his work on Ugly Betty, Plana won a 2006 Satellite Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Other awards that Plana has received nominations for include Screen Actor Guild Awards, ALMA Awards and Bravo Awards.
